Our Story

How we became the go-to guide for American travelers in Bali

From Bali Newbies to Local Experts

Hey there, fellow Americans! Let us tell you a little story about how American Herald came to be. Picture this: a group of American travelers (just like you!) who fell head over heels in love with Bali. We came for a vacation, but we stayed because this magical island captured our hearts in ways we never expected.

Back in 2022, our founders – a mix of travel bloggers, adventure enthusiasts, and digital nomads – met at a cozy cafe in Ubud. We were all struggling with the same problem: finding reliable, honest information about Bali activities that actually matched what we experienced on the ground. Too many guides were outdated, overly promotional, or just plain wrong.

So we decided to do something about it. We pooled our experiences, our local connections, and our passion for authentic travel, and American Herald was born. Our mission? To give American travelers the real deal – no fluff, no BS, just honest, detailed guides based on actual experiences.

🎯 Our Mission

To empower American travelers with accurate, up-to-date, and genuinely helpful information so they can make the most of their Bali adventures. We believe travel should be accessible, safe, and absolutely unforgettable.

Why We Focus on ATV Adventures

While we cover all sorts of Bali activities, ATV riding holds a special place in our hearts. Why? Because it's the perfect metaphor for what makes Bali so incredible: it's adventurous, it's authentic, and it gets you out of the tourist bubble and into the real Bali.

We've personally tested dozens of ATV tour operators across the island. We've gotten muddy, we've gotten lost (okay, maybe just once), and we've had some of the most incredible experiences of our lives. We know what makes a great ATV tour – and what makes a terrible one – and we're not afraid to tell you about both.

Our guides are written by people who've actually been there, done that, and got the t-shirt (and the mud stains to prove it). When we recommend an ATV tour, it's because we've ridden it ourselves and genuinely believe it's worth your time and money.

Our Core Values

What drives us every single day

🎯 Honesty First

We'll never recommend something just because it pays well. If a tour operator sucks, we'll tell you. If an activity is overhyped, we'll call it out. Your trust is everything to us, and we protect it fiercely.

🌍 Authentic Experiences

We believe in travel that respects local culture, supports local communities, and creates genuine connections. We're not here to help you find the most Instagrammable spots – we're here to help you find the most meaningful ones.

πŸ›‘οΈ Safety Always

Adventure is great, but not at the cost of your safety. We thoroughly vet every operator we recommend, checking their safety records, equipment quality, and guide training. Your well-being is non-negotiable.

πŸ’° Value for Money

We know you're spending hard-earned cash on this trip. We're committed to helping you get the best bang for your buck, whether that means finding budget-friendly options or identifying when splurging is totally worth it.

πŸ“š Constantly Updated

Bali changes fast. Prices go up, new operators open, old ones close, and trails change with the seasons. We're committed to keeping our guides fresh and accurate, so you're never working with outdated info.

🀝 Community Driven

We're not just a website – we're a community of American travelers who love Bali. We read your comments, answer your questions, and incorporate your feedback into our guides. This is a team effort.

How We Create Our Guides

You might be wondering, "How do I know these guides are actually good?" Fair question! Here's our process:

Step 1: We Actually Do the Stuff

Every single guide we publish is based on firsthand experience. We don't just research online and regurgitate information – we book the tours, ride the ATVs, eat the food, and explore the locations ourselves. If we haven't done it, we don't write about it.

Step 2: We Test Multiple Options

For something like ATV tours, we don't just try one operator – we try several. We compare prices, equipment quality, guide expertise, safety protocols, and overall experience. This way, we can give you honest comparisons and recommendations.

Step 3: We Update Regularly

Bali changes fast. Prices go up, new operators open, old ones close, and trails change with the seasons. We revisit our guides every few months to make sure everything is current. If something changes significantly, we update immediately.

Step 4: We Listen to You

Our readers are our secret weapon. You tell us what's working, what's not, and what you want to know more about. We read every comment, respond to every email, and incorporate your feedback into our guides. This is a collaborative effort.

Step 5: We're Transparent About Partnerships

Full disclosure: we do have partnerships with some tour operators. But here's the deal – we only partner with operators we genuinely believe in and have personally tested. We never recommend something just because it pays well. If an operator sucks, we won't work with them, period.

πŸ” Our Review Process

Every tour operator we recommend goes through a rigorous vetting process. We check their safety records, read customer reviews, inspect their equipment, interview their guides, and most importantly, we experience their tours ourselves. Only the best make the cut.

What Makes Us Different

Look, there are a ton of travel blogs out there. So what makes American Herald different? Here's the honest truth:

  • We're American-focused: We understand what American travelers need because we are American travelers. We know your concerns about safety, value, and quality because they're our concerns too.
  • We're actually in Bali: We're not writing from some office in New York. We live here, we breathe this air, we navigate these roads. We have our finger on the pulse of what's happening right now.
  • We're brutally honest: We'll tell you when something is overpriced, overhyped, or just plain bad. We'd rather lose a partnership than lose your trust.
  • We're accessible: Got a question? Email us. We actually read and respond to every message. We're not some faceless corporation – we're real people who love what we do.
  • We're passionate: This isn't just a job for us – it's our life. We genuinely care about helping you have an amazing Bali experience because we remember what it was like to be in your shoes.

Our Commitment to You

When you read an American Herald guide, we want you to feel confident that you're getting the best possible information. That's why we commit to:

  1. Only recommending things we've personally experienced and believe in
  2. Keeping our information accurate and up-to-date
  3. Being transparent about any partnerships or sponsorships
  4. Responding to your questions and feedback promptly
  5. Continuously improving based on what you tell us

We're not perfect – we make mistakes sometimes. But when we do, we own up to them, we fix them, and we learn from them. That's the American way, right? πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
